Montana Dakota Scale Service was established in 1976 in Fairview, MT by Cal Waller, a lifetime resident of Eastern Montana. The location provoked the namesake, as Fairview is divided by the North Dakota border running through the middle of Fairview. At that time, Cal specialized in Grain Elevator Scales and Cattle Scales, as that was in demand. Cal's son, Lance, started helping his dad in the summers, starting in 1986.
Lance became a full-time employee in 1991, after receiving his Associate Degree at Williston State College. By January 1996, Lance purchased the business from his dad after working together for almost 10 years, with the business evolving into the electronic era. During that time, truck scales were in higher demand. Lance employed his son, Colton, in the summer of 2010.
Today, Colton is a full-time employee working with his dad as the business has become more diversified, adding the Oilfield & Gravel Industry to the Grain Elevators, Cattle, Bulk Weighing, Railroad Track, Floor, Bench, Dockage, and Truck Scales that we provide service and sales to in the same location the business was started over 38 years ago!
